members will earn 1 000 more points for the Kids Vitality Health Review. Read more.

The 2014 Healthy Active Kids SA report card, which will soon be released, shows South African kids are not improving in the health stakes. Although the levels of physical activity haven’t changed, the number of overweight children has increased.

Tell employees how to take steps towards better kids’ health and EXTRA Vitality points

It’s important to keep kids healthy, happy and active, and this starts with knowing and understanding their health. As Vitality members, your employees earn 2 000 points for completing the Kids Vitality Health Review for each child, and this year they will earn an EXTRA 1 000 points for each assessment they complete by 30 June. That means their points will be boosted to 3 000 for each child in July! If they’ve already completed a Kids Vitality Health Review in 2014, their points will be boosted automatically in July.

Completing the Kids Vitality Health Review holds many more rewards

Completing the Kids Vitality Health Review is quick and easy. Your employees on Vitality can log in to www.discovery.co.za, select ‘Vitality’, ‘Know your health’ and click on ‘Kids’ assessments’.

Once they’ve completed the assessment, they’ll earn Vitality points and also know more about their kids’ health, get useful advice on how to improve it, and tips on making fitness fun. PLUS, if your employees’ kids are older than two and younger than 18, they can watch movies at Ster-Kinekor for free before 7pm! Terms and conditions apply.

Give your employees these tips to keep their kids active while they have fun

Exercise should be fun, especially for kids. Fun, non-competitive exercise is a great way for families to spend quality time together. Here are a few ways to get active together:

  • Go for a swim, ride bikes or play a sport together.
  • Take the dog and go for a walk in the nearest park.
  • Go for a hike or, if it’s near the beach, take a walk along the water.
  • Enter community events, such as fun runs or walks.
  • Plan an “adventure holiday” together, with entertaining and exciting activities.
  • Make sure kids understand that it’s not a competition – the focus needs to be on having fun and enjoying it.

Your employees can also register and join their local parkrun to participate in a free, weekly, 5km timed run or walk that takes place in beautiful outdoor surroundings. If kids are 6 years and older, they’ll earn Vitality points for finishing a parkrun. Visit www.discovery.co.za for more details
