DISCOVERY HOMECARE
This unique home-based service offers members quality care in the comfort of their own home. Discovery HomeCare allows Discovery Health Medical Scheme members to continue to recover from illness in a familiar environment, with minimum disruption to routine, in order to maximise their time with their loved ones.
Discovery HomeCare, which will be covered by members’ relevant benefits, will be available in selected Gauteng areas from 1 January 2015.
DISCOVERY HEALTH ON CALL 24/7
From 20 February 2015, member will be able to use the Discovery member app to book a virtual consultation with their chosen GP, or another appointed doctor, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Virtual consultations are available to all members of the Discovery Health Medical Scheme, and are paid from the available day-to-day benefits.
MANAGING CHRONIC CONDITIONS
Members registered on the Chronic Illness Benefit for diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia or ischemic heart disease, can join a Discovery Personal Health Programme. Discovery’s Personal Health Programmes are unique lifestyle programmes designed to assist members – with the help of their Premier Practice GP – in actively managing their chronic condition.
SECOND-OPINION SERVICES
The member’s specialist can obtain a second opinion from specialists at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic in the US, thanks to Discovery Health’s relationship with this quality medical institution.
From 1 January 2015, Discovery Health Medical Scheme will fund 50% of the opinion fee with
Cleveland Clinic if a second opinion is requested by their specialist. This could significantly add to the quality of treatment members with particularly complex medical needs receive.
HEALTHYCARE
Discovery has partnered with Clicks and Dis-Chem to help members save up to 25% on a range of products and services in the HealthyCare catalogue. Once they have activated HealthyCare, they’ll qualify for up to 10% cash back. Members on both the Discovery Health Medical Scheme and Vitality can boost their cash back up to 25% at one partner pharmacy.
MEDXPRESS
Members can now order and collect their medicine
From 2015, members can send a photo of their prescription through MedXpress and collect their medicine from one of our partner pharmacies. Their medicine will be ready for collection at a designated counter.
Designated Service Provider
From 2015, MedXpress will become the Designated Service Provider for chronic medicine on all Core plans (Classic, Essential and Coastal). This will become effective from 1 July 2015 for existing registered chronic members.
Newly diagnosed members on Core plans will need to use MedXpress from 1 January 2015. Should you choose to use a pharmacy other than MedXpress for chronic medicine, a 20% co-payment will apply.
STEM CELL BANKING AND SEMEN PRESERVATION
Members can get up to 25% off on stem cell storage and semen preservation with Netcells® Biosciences when they pay upfront. If they choose to use a payment plan, they’ll get a discount of 20%.
